ARCHDIOCESE — Quoting Homer and Teddy Roosevelt, Michael Jordan and John Wooden, Steve Specht wove a story of choice, drive and vision at the Catholic Men’s Conference March 21.
Specht, the head football coach at St. Xavier High School, was a keynote speaker at the 15th conference. More than 2,300 men attended the day-long event at Cincinnati’s Music Hall.

ST. ANDREW DEANERY — Archbishop Moeller High School is now collecting donations for a rummage sale to benefit Unifat (the school in Uganda it helps support, along with 120 of the school’s children), Moeller’s freshman leadership program, and tuition assistance. All leftover items from the sale will be donated to St. Vincent de Paul.

ST. LAWRENCE DEANERY — The newly inaugurated president of the College of Mount St. Joseph, Anthony J. Aretz, says that one of his priorities will be to integrate ethics training into the college’s academic and other programs, an approach he hopes will better prepare Mount graduates for leadership in a troubled society.
“Our country, our city, our schools, our churches, our world, needs ethical leaders,” he said. “Our goal is no less than the Mount is going to establish itself as a national leader in undergraduate ethical leadership development.” Continue reading →

ARCHDIOCESE — The Archdiocese of Cincinnati has returned Father Clarence Heis to priestly ministry effective March 19, following three years on administrative leave. He will reside in Cincinnati and celebrate the sacraments in the archdiocese as needed.

DAYTON DEANERY — Last fall, militant Hindu nationalists committed a rash of violent attacks on Christians within a remote and impoverished area of India, leaving an estimated 60 people dead and 50,000 displaced. More than 150 Christian churches were destroyed.
Now, Father Satish Joseph, associate pastor of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception and St. Helen parishes in Dayton, is seeking to understand the root of this violence, as well as other clashes between Hindus and Christians in the world’s most populous democracy.

HAMILTON DEANERY — Some motherly advice struck a chord with Marie Wilson about being mindful of the necessities that are sometimes taken for granted. She realized that despite the tough economy, she and her family have been blessed with food that they can share with others.
“My mother said, ‘take care of the gifts God gave you,’” Wilson said. “People had coupons they were not using. I can multiply the usage and find great bargains coupled with store specials.”

ARCHDIOCESE — Since arriving in America nearly 300 years ago, Catholic Sisters have served as educators, nurses, social workers and in a variety of other ministries, touching countless lives with their faith and compassion.
Now the story of these courageous, committed women will be told in a new traveling exhibit — “Women and Spirit: Catholic Sisters in America” —scheduled to open at the Cincinnati Museum Center on May 16 and travel throughout the United States for the next three years.
