The Catholic Conference of Ohio is asking for your immediate help on the state budget bill. Poverty programs are poised to take massive cuts, and programs supporting our Catholic school students may be cut by $59M over the next two years.

We ask that you take a moment and contact the Governor, your state Representative, and your state Senator urging them to oppose such cuts.

These cuts were just proposed this week in an effort to make up a $3B budget deficit. We welcome any help you can give in encouraging calls and emails before this Monday, June 29, 2009. We understand that bulletin inserts and announcements may be difficult at this late notice, however, we hope that you and several in your parish will be able to call or email your elected officials. It will be helpful.

The linked June 2009 E-FOCUS should provide you with all the necessary background. Your diocesan social action offices and schools offices are also communicating these concerns. Please link to: http://www.ohiocathconf.org/EFocus609.htm .

If you have any questions please contact: Catholic Conference of Ohio, 9 E. Long Street, Suite 201, Columbus, OH 43215; 614-224-7147; [email protected].
