A Mass of Christian Burial for Deacon Edward (Ned) Ostendorf was held on Aug. 21 at St. Columbkille Church in Wilmington. Deacon Ostendorf, 74, died Aug. 16 after a battle with esophageal cancer.

A native of Dayton, Deacon Ostendorf was a 1955 graduate of the University of Dayton. His professional career in graphic and fine arts spanned more than 55 years.

He was ordered a permanent deacon by Archbishop Daniel E. Pilarczyk in 1991. During his ministry he served at St. Augustine Church in Waynesville; St. Francis de Sales Church in Lebanon; Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Monroe; and St. Columbkille.

He also served as a chaplain at Warren County Correctional Institute and as religious department chairperson and instructor at Chatfield College in St. Martin.

Deacon Osterndorf is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kay, and their six children, Mimi Histelberger, Caren Ayika, Arthur, Edward, Todd and Jan Ostendorf; a brother, Phil, and two sisters, Patty Karsh and Nancy Connair.

Interment was in the Miami-Corwin Cemetery in Corwin.
