A Mass of Christian Burial for Deacon John Phillip Wersching was celebrated May 20 at St. Cecilia Church in Oakley. Deacon Wersching, 89, died May 16.

 

Deacon Wersching was a graduate of Roger Bacon High School, Xavier University and the University of Illinois Dental School. He served in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps during WWII.

 

Deacon Wersching was ordained to the permanent diaconate by the late Archbishop Joseph L. Bernardin at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains on July 28, 1979. He served at the former Holy Angels Parish in O’Bryonville from his ordination until 1999, then at the nearby St. Francis de Sales Parish until his retirement in 2001.

 

Deacon Wersching is survived by his, Catherine, and children, Jim and Mary Ann. Interment was in St. Joseph (Old) Cemetery in Price Hill.
