A Mass of Christian Burial for Precious Blood Sister Elizabeth (M. Irmina) Massarek was held Jan. 8 at Salem Heights in Dayton. Sister Massarek, 81, died Jan. 6 at Maria Joseph Center in Dayton. She was a Sister of the Precious Blood for 64 years.

A native of Richmond, Va., Sister Elizabeth was raised in Celina and entered the Sisters of the Precious Blood in 1945.

During a 30-year ministry in primary education Sister Elizabeth taught at schools in Cincinnati, Coldwater, Minster, Celina and Dayton. She also taught in Ottawa, Columbus Grove and in Arizona, Missouri, California and Virginia. She worked in pastoral care and social work in Indiana, Pennsylvania and at the Maria Joseph Center.

She moved to Salem Heights in 2003, and failing health necessitated her move to the Maria Joseph Center in 2008.

A sister, Patricia Davis of Waterford, Mich., survives her. Burial was in Salem Heights Cemetery.
