A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister of St. Francis Mary Emmett Lawrence was celebrated on July31 at her congregation’s motherhouse in Oldenburg, Ind. Sister Mary Emmett. 93, died on July 28 at St. Clare Hall, the health care facility at the motherhouse.

A native of Dayton, Sister Mary Emmett entered religious life in 1935 and professed final vows in 1941. Sister Mary Emmett’s ministry in elementary education spanned a period of 47 years, from 1938 to 1985. She served as a teacher and principal at St. Aloysius and St. Bonaventure schools, both in the Cincinnati area; St. Ann in Hamilton; and St. John in Middletown. She also taught in Indiana and Missouri.

Sister Mary Emmett entered semi-retirement in 1985 at the Oldenburg motherhouse, where she was engaged in service to her community as secretary for the Life Development Office and as librarian for the Special Collections Office. She entered full retirement at St. Clare Hall in 2003.

Interment was in the motherhouse cemetery
