A Mass of Christian Burial for Franciscan Sister Rosemary Stewart was celebrated Sept. 9 at the motherhouse chapel of the Sisters of St. Francis, Oldenburg, Ind. Sister Rosemary, 79, died Sept. 5 at St. Clare Hall, the congregation’s healthcare facility.


 
A Cincinnati native, Sister Rosemary entered the Oldenburg Franciscan community in 1949 and professed her final vows in 1955. Her teaching career spanned 50 years. Twenty-two of those years were spent at the former St. John the Baptist School in Middletown and St. Anthony in Dayton.
 
In 1972 Sister Rosemary became an instructor in special education at Marian College in Indianapolis and St. James the Greater and St. Aloysius Gonzaga in the Cincinnati area. In recent years she served as a director of religious education at Indiana parishes and was a caretaker at a group home in Cincinnati. She retired to the Oldenburg motherhouse in 2000.
 
Sister Rosemary is survived by a brother, James, of Louisville. Interment was in the congregation’s cemetery.
