Marianist Sean Richard Downing, a native of Xenia, was ordained a priest on Oct. 8 at the Unviersity of Dayton’s Chapel of the Immaculate Conception.

Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, M.Sp.S, of San Antonio presided. Marianist Provincial Father Martin Solma concelebrated the Mass at the chapel, which was overflowing with family, friends and Marianist brothers, priests and sisters.

Father Downing, 48, entered the Society of Mary in 2002, and has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in theological studies from the University of Dayton. During his years as a Marianist brother, he served at Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School and in vocation outreach at the University of Dayton, among other ministries.

Father Downing will spend his initial year of priestly service at Central Catholic High School, Holy Rosary Parish and St. Mary’s University, which are all Marianist ministries in San Antonio.
