DESCRIPTION:Xavier University Dementia Care Summit 2018: Holistic Approaches to Enhance Life at XU’s Cintas Center is designed to bring together professionals\, family members\, and care partners to consider issues important to persons with dementia\, and promote connections among caregivers at all levels. This year’s theme focuses on approaches to enhance the quality of life of people living with memory loss.  Conference participants will learn and experience care methods related to cognitive\, physical\, spiritual\, and environmental aspects. \nKeynote Speaker: Teepa Snow\, “Humor and Caregiving – Learning How to Laugh”\nOne of the world’s leading specialists in dementia education with more than 30 years of clinical practice in geriatrics\, Snow developed the Positive Approach program to optimize services for professionals and care partners of persons with dementia.  She will show how to recognize and use humor to create a more positive and effective partnership and connection. \nOther presentation topics at the Dementia Summit include: current medical research on preventing Alzheimer’s disease\, the power of exercise\, environmental changes using Montessori approaches\, mindfulness\, and spirituality care for dementia care.
