Obituary: Father David Brinkmoeller

Reverend David E. Brinkmoeller died on Friday, September 27, 2019. He was born on July 18, 1945 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He did his preparatory studies at St. Gregory Seminary and studied theology at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary of the West in Norwood, Ohio. He was ordained on May 29, 1971 at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains in Cincinnati by Archbishop Paul F. Leibold.

Father Brinkmoeller received his first assignment on June 17, 1971 as Associate at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Parish, Bridgetown (Cincinnati). On June 19, 1974, he was appointed Associate at St. Ann Parish, Cincinnati. On August 17, 1976, he was named co-pastor of St. Ann Parish. He was appointed Director of the Priestly Formation Office on November 15, 1979 while remaining as co-pastor of St. Ann Parish. Effective January 15, 1980, he was appointed resident Associate of Assumption Parish, Cincinnati while continuing as Director of the Priestly Formation Office. On March 31, 1988, Father Brinkmoeller was released from the Archdiocese for service at the National Conference of Catholic Bishops as Executive Director of the Bishops’ Committee for Priestly Life and Ministry. On August 4, 1992, he was appointed Pastor of Ascension Parish, Kettering for a six-year term and reappointed as Pastor for another six-year term on August 5, 1998. On January 1, 1999, Father Brinkmoeller was appointed Dean of the Dayton Deanery for a four-year term and reappointed for two additional four-year terms (2002-2006) and (2006-2010). He was appointed Pastor of St. Helen Parish, Dayton for a period of six-years on July 1, 2004. He was appointed Temporary Parochial Administrator of Holy Family and St. Mary Parishes, Dayton from July 1, 2005 to September 30, 2005 as well as Temporary Parochial Administrator of St. Anthony Parish, Dayton, effective on February 25, 2008. On July 1, 2008, he was appointed Pastor of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Parish, Dayton while continuing as Pastor of St. Helen Parish. Father Brinkmoeller retired from active ministry on June 30, 2016.

Reception of the Body: Friday, October 4, 2019 at 3:30 p.m. at St. Helen Church, 5100 Burkhardt Road, Dayton, Ohio 45431; (937-254-6233). Celebrant: Reverend Christopher J. Worland. Homilist: Reverend Thomas P. DiFolco. Visitation: 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Church.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 2300 W. Smithville Road, Dayton, Ohio 45420; (937-252-9919). Celebrant: Most Reverend Joseph R. Binzer. Homilist: Reverend Satish A. Joseph.
