A
Mass of Christian Burial for Sister of Notre Dame de Namur Rita Kurry was
celebrated Sept. 6 in St. Julie Chapel at the Mount Notre Dame Convent in
Cincinnati. Sister Rita, 95, died Aug. 29 at the Mount Notre Dame Health
Center. She was a member of the congregation for 77 years.

 

A
native of Hamilton, Sister Rita was a classroom teacher for 37 years, teaching
grades three to eight at the former Holy Trinity School in Dayton; the former
St. Veronica School in Hamilton; the former St. George School in Cincinnati;
and St. Michael School in Sharonville. She also taught high school at the
former St. Xavier Commercial High School in Cincinnati; the then-Mount Notre
Dame Academy in Reading; the former Julienne High School in Dayton; and
Chaminade Julienne High School in Dayton.

 

After
leaving the classroom in 1976, Sister Rita turned to community service at the
former St. Agnes School in Dayton and then at St. James of the Valley in
Wyoming, providing Communion for hospitalized or housebound parishioners. She
also joined the seniors group at St. James and served as president for several
years. Sister Rita later served the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in the
finance department and as a receptionist. She retired in 2003.

 

Interment
was in the congregation’s cemetery.
