Badin High School will be closed Wednesday, April 18, to honor the memory of the late Tom Rains, veteran Social Studies teacher who passed away on Friday, April 13.

A funeral Mass for Mr. Rains will be celebrated at St. Peter in Chains Church in Hamilton at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

“Tom Rains was a dedicated member of the Badin faculty,’’ BHS Principal Brian Pendergest said. “He was an excellent teacher who loved history and government. Tom will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of working with him or being one of his students.”

Rains, a 1968 graduate of Badin High School, joined the faculty in 1983. He was the chair of the Social Studies department and coached baseball for several years in the 1980s. He had been on medical leave since the 1st quarter of the 2011-12 school year.

Rains is survived by his wife, Karen; two children, Suzanne Roth ’90 and Joseph Rains ’96; and four siblings.
