DAYTON DEANERY — The Dayton Catholic Women’s Club (DCWC), an affiliate of the National Council of Catholic Women, distributed $14,000 in profits from last year’s fundraisers to the following recipients: St. Agnes Outreach, Daybreak, St. Marys Development Corporation, Oasis, Catholic Social Services, Elizabeth New Life Center, Learning Tree, Mercy Manor, Womanline, St. Vincent de Paul, and Mercy Siena. Also, $2,000 in scholarships was awarded to four young Catholic women, current graduates of local private and public high schools.

The nonprofit organization of nearly 500 members is in its 88th year. The DCWC’s annual fundraisers are a Christmas Boutique on Dec. 3, a St. Patrick’s Day Card Party on March 17, a spring luncheon on May 12, as well as the upcoming Day of Recollection and luncheon on Saturday, Oct. 8th, at Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church in Dayton at Keenan Avenue and North Dixie Drive.

The Day of Recollection in remembrance of deceased members will begin with a 9:00 a.m. Mass followed by a program presented by Gloria Leigh, retired director of religious education, titled “Cain, Where Is Your Brother?” After lunch, Martha Teeter, prayer ministry coordinator, will present Lectio Divina (Divine reading — ancient practice of praying the Scriptures).

Reservations are requested by Oct. 3; the cost is $15 per person and should be sent to Julianne McCain, 6438 Noranda Dr., Dayton, Ohio 45415. Tickets will not be sold at the door. Additional information may be obtained by calling McCain at 937-694-2176.
