Holly Ordway Talk at The Athenaeum of Ohio (Mt. Washington)

October 4, 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Free
Speaker and author Dr. Holly Ordway, professor of English at Houston Baptist University and a convert to the faith, will discuss her journey from atheism to Catholicism in her talk “From Atheist to Catholic: The Apologetics of Imagination.” Talk takes place the the Bartlett Center next to the main building.
Ordway once thought she was “not God’s type” – an atheist professor hostile to Christianity – but she discovered that following the truth led her on an unexpected journey. She will share her journey of faith from atheism to becoming a Protestant, then encountering the fullness of the truth in the Catholic Church. In particular, she discusses how the imagination, working through stories and poetry, played a crucial role in her conversion to Christianity as well as her later reconciliation with the Church. Her story shows what it’s like to move from outside the Faith to inside, and provides encouragement and insights for those who are involved in apologetics, evangelization, preaching, and teaching.Ordway is the author of Apologetics and the Christian Imagination (Emmaus Road Publishing, 2017) and Not God’s Type: An Atheist Academic Lays Down Her Arms (Ignatius Press, 2014).
