Seven-Station Lenten Prayer Walk in Cincinnati

March 7, 2018 @ 8:30 am - 12:30 pm

Free

The Seven-Church Walk originated with the Oratory movement founded by St. Philip Neri. On the Wednesday of Holy Week, Philip and his companions would set out to visit the four major basilicas of Rome, as well as the three more significant minor basilicas. They would pack picnic lunches, sing songs, and pray litanies along the way, stopping occasionally to rest, and pausing at each of the seven basilicas for catechesis and prayer. This Lenten prayer walk will include seven “stations” (Old St. Mary’s, St. Paul’s, the Hamilton County Courthouse, St. Francis Xavier, St. Louis, the cathedral of St. Peter in Chains, and St. Francis Seraph), where the group will stop to pray and meditate on the Passion of Christ, and will end back at Old St. Mary’s with soup and bread. Along the walk, the group will pray the rosary and sing hymns. The day will begin with 8:30 Low Latin Mass (which is silent; if you are new to the Tridentine Latin Mass, you can pray along with the Mass, pray the rosary, or pray about anything you like). Coffee will be available after Mass before the walk. Dress for the weather.
