On Jan. 9, St. Ignatius of Loyola students competed in the Fifth Annual Roger Bacon High School Science Fair, winning 1st and 2nd places among elementary students in addition to $1,500 and $500 scholarships to any archdiocesan high school. The Angelico Project Family Movie Night presented Tangled-Discovering Christian Symbolism on Jan. 10 at Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Center. Plastic bags are a staple at many stores and a convenience for carrying multiple items. Now, plastic bags have a new purpose for those without a place to sleep. For their Senior Capstone Project, Chaminade Julienne High School students Agnes Guiselin and Jeremiah Gar enlisted help from others to create plastic bag mattresses. Guiselin, a parishioner at St. Christopher Church in Vandalia, asked the congregation to assist in the creation of mattresses as well. Plastic bags are a staple at many stores and a convenience for carrying multiple items. Now, plastic bags have a new purpose for those without a place to sleep. The Divine Mercy group at Queen of Peace in Hamilton, has formed the Apostolate for the Dying and are committed to pray the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy each day at the 3 o’clock Hour of Mercy. They meet in church every Tuesday and Friday at 3 p.m. to pray for the sick and dying. St. Xavier High School is piloting a therapy dog. In partnership with Circle Tail, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide service and hearing dogs to people with disabilities, the school will add Evan, a two-year-old Golden Retriever. As part of the pilot, school counselors and the Assistant Principal for Student Services will train as handlers for Evan. Evan is a working dog and conducts himself by a strict set of rules. While his main job is to support students who may be struggling in and around the counselors’ offices, he will also work with the entire school community.
