ARCHDIOCESE — The first of two 2011 Golden Wedding Anniversary masses for couples marking 50 years of marriage was celebrated April 9 at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church in Dayton. Cincinnati Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr was the principal celebrant for the Mass honoring the vocation of marriage.

The Family Life Office of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati gathers the name of couples celebrating the special anniversary from parishes and presents them with certificates at the Mass.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops offers online resources on marriage at www.foryourmarriage.org, as well as a  Spanish-language counterpart, www.portumatrimonio.org. Advocacy resources may be found at www.marriageuniqueforareason.org on why marriage should be promoted as the union of a man and a woman; and the bishops’ pastoral letter on marriage, Love and Life in the Divine Plan, is available online at www.usccb.org/loveandlife. The For Your Marriage website received nearly half a million visits in 2010.

The Family Life Office also offers links to daily marriage tips and articles and resources on its website, http://www.catholiccincinnati.org/ministries-offices/family-life/marriage.

The Mass for couples from the Cincinnati area will be celebrated May 7 at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains.
