ARCHDIOCESE — Area Catholics joined the faithful from around the globe to ring in 2012 as they celebrated World Day of Peace Jan. 1. The theme for the day was “Educating Young People in Justice and Peace, “ as designated by Pope Benedict XVI.

Two World Day of Peace Masses were held in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr celebrated Mass at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains in downtown Cincinnati. In Dayton, Auxiliary Bishop Joseph R. Binzer celebrated Mass at St. Peter Church in Huber Heights.

The archdiocese invited elementary and high school students and parish youth groups to send representatives to the liturgies who exemplify involvement in service, peace and justice ministries. Teen friendly receptions followed each Mass.

The Masses were sponsored by the archdiocesan offices of Catholic Social Action, Worship, Schools and Mission.
