Mary’s Gardens Exhibit Grand Opening at UD

March 26, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free

The University of Dayton’s Marian Library will open an exciting exhibit on Mary’s Gardens founder, John Stokes,  who donated his collection of photographs, notes, publications, and more. The exhibit will include a living indoor garden with plants chosen from Stokes’s plans — plants will be replaced four times during the exhibit’s run, giving four different garden experiences. Widely regarded as the founder of the Mary Garden movement, Stokes was a convert from Quakerism who also had a long history of social justice work.

Handouts for self-guided tours will be available. A brief presentation will include remarks by Sarah Catalan, director of the Marian Library; Anne Stokes Hochberg, oldest of Stokes’s five children; Brent Ogburn, director of business development for Grunder Landscaping, which is providing the plants; and Sr. Leann Jablonski.

The exhibit runs from March 25 to May 10. Hours and days vary. Admission is free.
