A Mass of Christian Burial for Father Robert Wolfer was celebrated Jan. 17 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Westwood. Auxiliary Bishop Joseph R. Binzer presided. Father Wolfer, 90, died Jan. 15.

A Cincinnati native, Father Wolfer did his preparatory studies at St. Gregory Seminary and studied theology at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary of the West. He was ordained on Aug. 24, 1948, at the former Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Norwood, by Bishop George J. Rehring.

Father Wolfer received his first assignment on March 25, 1949, as associate pastor at St. Raphael Church, Springfield. He also served as an associate pastor at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Westwood (1954-1957), and the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains (1957-1971). Father Wolfer served as pastor of St. Patrick Church, Troy (1971-1983), and St. Martin of Tours Church, Cheviot (1983-1993). He retired in July 1993.

During his years of ministry he also served as a teacher at the former De Porres High School, Cincinnati; chaplain of the Hamilton County Holy Name Union; dean of the Sidney Deanery; and provided chaplaincy at various local hospitals. Father Wolfer was also a faithful third degree Knight of Columbus.

Interment was in St. Joseph (Old) Cemetery.
