Cincinnati.com reported Tuesday that long-time La Salle High School head football coach Tom Grippa will be stepping down from that position to become the new offensive coordinator at NCAA Division III College of Mount St. Joseph.

The Enquirer report came less than two hours after La Salle sent a press release to various media, including The Catholic Telegraph, that it would have a “video statement regarding the future of the high school’s football program” at 5:30 p.m. this evening. It was not clear whether the Grippa’s departure was the reason for the scheduled announcement.

Grippa has been a high school coach for nearly 30 years. He coached at Elder High School prior to his time at La Salle.

An email to a La Salle spokesman and calls to Mount St. Joseph’s sports information department seeking confirmation were not immediately returned.
