A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister of St. Francis Sister Catherine Raters was celebrated Oct. 9 in the motherhouse chapel in Oldenburg, Ind. Sister Catherine, 84, died Oct. 5. She entered the Oldenburg Franciscan community in 1947 and professed her final vows in 1953.

Sister Catherine served as a teacher and principal. During her ministry experiences, she taught pre-primary, primary, intermediate, and junior high classes and developed programs for developmentally disabled youngsters. In the archdiocese, she taught at St. Bernard, Taylor’s Creek.

Sister Catherine is survived by her sister, Cecilia Strigari, and brother, Michael. Interment was in the motherhouse cemetery.
