Sister Mary Xavier Sercombe

A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister of Charity of Cincinnati Mary Xavier Sercombe was celebrated Nov. 28 in the motherhouse chapel. Sister Mary Xavier, 77, died Nov. 21 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati. She was a Sister of Charity of Cincinnati for 58 years.
A native of Jackson, Mich., Sister Mary Xavier ministered in food service for more than 25 at facilities that included the Sisters of Charity motherhouse, Mother Margaret Hall, the community’s nursing home, Seton High School convent in Price Hill and St. Jude School in Bridgetown. While at St. Jude, Sister Mary Xavier also served as a library assistant She continued this ministry at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School in Milford and St. Gabriel School in Glendale.
In 1988 Sister Mary Xavier joined the Terrace Guild in Cincinnati, where she served as a childcare provider. She returned to food preparation in 1990 at Bayley senior care facility. She later served at the information/reception desk at the congregation’s motherhouse. She retired in 2000 to the ministry of prayer.
Interment was in the Sisters of Charity cemetery.
