A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister of Notre Dame de Namur Maura Guilfoyle was celebrated Aug. 14 at St. Julie Chapel at Mount Notre Dame Convent in Cincinnati.  Sister Maura, 94, died Aug. 9 at the Mount Notre Dame Health Center.

A native of Birmingham, Mich., Sister Maura devoted 29 years of service to Catholic education as both a teacher and principal. In the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, she served at Cardinal Pacelli School in Mt. Lookout; the former St. Stephen School in Hamilton; St. Susanna School in Mason; and Ascension School in Kettering. From 1969 to 1975, Sister Maura guided the merger of St. Stephen and Queen of Peace schools.

 

After leaving the classroom, Sister Maura took on a new ministry as pastoral assistant at St. Victor Parish in Calumet City, Ill. Ten years later she moved to a similar ministry at St. Peter in Chains Parish in Hamilton. She also produced a course of studies for lay volunteers titled “That Ministry of Care.”

 

Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in Dayton.
