A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister of St. Joseph Phyllis Manda was celebrated May 26 at St. Thomas More Church in Baton Rouge, La. Sister Phyllis, 71, died May 23 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge.

 

A native of Baton Rouge, Sister Phyllis entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in New Orleans in 1971 and professed final vows in 1977. In 1986 she was elected vice-president of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Medaille and moved to Cincinnati, where she served for eight years. From 1995 to 2002 she served as executive director of the U.S. Federation of the Sisters of St. Joseph.

 

She went on to serve as president of her community.

 

Sister Phyllis is survived by three sisters, Patt Manda, Brenda Bordelon and Debbie Salvant. Interment was in Roselawn Cemetery in Baton Rouge.
