Sister Teresa Eileen Alexander
A Memorial Mass for Maryknoll Sister Teresa Eileen Alexander was celebrated Jan. 9 in the Annunciation Chapel at the Maryknoll Sisters Center in Ossining, N.Y. Sister Terry, 86, died Jan. 1. She was a Maryknoll Sister for 67 years.
A native of Yellow Springs, Sister Terry entered the Maryknoll Sisters in 1946. She was primarily an educator and parish minister. Her assignments included service in Panama, El Salvador and Guatemala. She was a missionary in El Salvador when fellow Maryknll Sisters Ita Ford and Maura Clarke, Ursuline Sister Dorothy Kazel and lay missioner Jean Donovan were murdered in 1980. She retired to the Maryknoll Sisters Center in 2007, where she served on a part-time basis in the Treasury Office.
Sister Terry is survived by her sisters, Patricia Alexander and Clara Ann Belval, and brothers John and James. Her body was given to science at Sister Terry’s request.
