ROME — The first “selfie” of retired pontiff Benedict XVI is making the rounds on social networks.

The photo was shared by Twitter user Gianluca Barile on his Twitter account Sept. 11 and is the first known selfie in which the retired Pontiff has appeared.

The above tweet translates as, “Here is the first-ever #selfie #Papa Emeritus #BenedettoXVI, together with Giuseppe Ricciardi of Aversa.”

Hours later, Barile published a second selfie of Benedict XVI, this time together with Italian priest Fr. Sebastiano Sequino.
