1) St. Mary Elementary Reunion

On Aug. 12, the St. Mary Alumni Association held an all class reunion. The event started with Mass, followed by a tour of the church, a display of parish and school memorabilia in the school building and a catered meal in Beckmeyer Hall. Approximately 170 attended from seven states, representing graduation classes from 1942 through 1971 (the year the school closed).

2) Military Appreciation at SUA
The St. Ursula Academy (SUA) Military Appreciation Club hosted an all-school assembly commemorating 9/11. Club members shared with students video and audio clips from that tragic day in U.S. history and profiled some of the many heroes who risked their lives to save others. In particular, they shared the story of “The Man in the Red Bandanna” who lost his life in the South Tower while rescuing at least 18 other people.

3) Moeller Student Helps Elementary School
Paul Shaffer, a Moeller High School student in Cincinnati, received a grant from the Youth Philanthropy Committee for $1,000 to purchase headphones for Delshire Elementary on the West Side. These headphones are critical because they are used for all of their state testing, but most students don’t have them.

4) Eucharistic Miracles Conference
The Catholic Communities of Northwest Dayton hosted a Eucharistic Miracles exhibit at Precious Blood Church and St. Joseph Church at the end of September.
