A Mass of Christian Burial for Precious Blood Sister Ermelinda Burgei was celebrated June 25 at Salem Heights in Dayton. Sister Ermelinda, 84, died at the Maria Joseph Center on June 23. She had been a Sister of the Precious Blood for 67 years.

 

A native of Cloverdale, Sister Ermelinda entered her congregation in 1943 and spent 39 years ministering in primary education. In the Archdiocese of Cincinnati she taught at Incarnation School in Centerville; Holy Rosary in St. Marys; Resurrection School in Dayton; and the former St. Joseph School in Wapakoneta. She also served as principal at both Incarnation and Resurrection schools.

 

In 1985 Sister Ermelinda began serving as manager of the Maria Stein Gift Shop, and later served as both assistant manager and as a volunteer in the chapels. She retired to Salem Heights, the congregation’s central house, in 2007.

 

Sister Ermelinda is survived by her sister, Rita Wannemacher, and brother, Oscar. Interment was in Salem Heights Cemetery.
