A Mass of Christian Burial for Precious Blood Sister Janet Winandy was celebrated Jan 22 at Salem Heights in Dayton. Sister Janet, 74, died Jan. 18 at the Maria Joseph Center after a brief bout with pancreatic cancer. She was a Sister of the Precious Blood for 58 years.

 

A native of Gary, Ind., Sister Janet served in various ministries. She was known for her creative approach to teaching both math and science and served as a teacher and principal at various elementary and secondary schools in California and Arizona. When called upon to serve in leadership, she assumed the role as director of her congregation’s western region. She also served for 10 years as administrative assistant to the congregational leadership team in Dayton. She retired in 2011 and continued to volunteer in various capacities.

 

Sister Janet is survived by her sisters, Susan Hatton and Roberta Miller, and brother, Thomas. Interment was in Salem Heights cemetery.
