A Mass of Christian Burial for Franciscan Sister Mary Ammann was celebrated July 20 at the motherhouse chapel of the Sisters of St. Francis, Oldenburg, Ind. Sister Mary, 94, died July 18 at St. Clare Hall, the congregation’s health care facility.

A native of Cincinnati, Sister Mary entered the Oldenburg Franciscan community in 1959 and professed her final vows in 1965. Sister Mary was a dedicated teacher, spending her teaching career in secondary education as a biology teacher, physical education and coach instructor. Prior to entering the convent, she taught at the former Our Lady of Angels High School and the College of Mount St. Joseph. She spent 33 years in ministry at Oldenburg Academy, including 16 years as the school’s first athletic director. She entered full retirement in 2002.

 

Sister Mary is survived by her brother, Richard. Interment was in the congregation’s cemetery.
