CINCINNATI, OH – October 23, 2023 – St. Vincent de Paul – Cincinnati (SVDP) is launching its 23rd annual Winter Coat Drive. SVDP is asking the public for donations of new and gently used coats, which will be distributed to neighbors in need.

In partnership with St. Vincent de Paul Northern Kentucky, coats are being collected at all St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Stores across the Tri-State, as well as select other locations. Businesses, schools, churches and other groups in the community are encouraged to host their own coat collections. SVDP will provide materials and support for coat collections, as needed. Information on how to sign up, as well as a list of coat drop-off locations, is available at SVDPcincinnati.org/coats.

“Every day, we receive calls from hundreds of individuals and families in crisis. As many of our neighbors struggle to afford the very basics, such as food, rent and utilities, we know many people in our community simply do not have the resources to purchase winter coats for each family member,” says Brad McMonigle, CEO of St. Vincent de Paul – Cincinnati. “Donating a coat is a meaningful and easy way to help spread comfort and warmth this winter.”

SVDP plans to collect and distribute over 2,000 coats throughout the upcoming winter season. There is a particular need for children’s coats as well as adult coats in sizes XL and larger. Financial donations, which SVDP will use to purchase new coats, can also be made online at SVDPcincinnati.org/coats.

In coordination with St. Vincent de Paul Northern Kentucky, the first coat distribution events of the season will be held on Saturday, December 2. In Cincinnati, St. Vincent de Paul will host a coat distribution at Elder High School, 3900 Vincent Ave., from 9 a.m. to noon, and in Northern Kentucky, coats will be available at Cristo Rey Catholic Church in Florence and John G. Carlisle Elementary School in Covington from 9 a.m. to noon on December 2. Neighbors in need of a coat should visit SVDPcincinnati.org/coats for more information on upcoming distributions.

Coat drive partners include Gold Star Chili, Lemasters Consulting, Rhinegeist Brewery and the many businesses, churches, schools and other organizations hosting private collections. WLWT and Warm 98.5 are media sponsors for the Winter Coat Drive.
